Society for the Welfare of the Intellectually Disabled, Bangladesh (SWID Bangladesh) is pleased to host the 23rd Conference of Asian Federation on Intellectual Disabilities (AFID) 2017. I am grateful to the honorable members of the Executive Board for electing me as the president of AFID for the period of 2015-2017 and for granting me the responsibility of holding the 23rd Conference of AFID in Bangladesh.
I welcome all my friends at AFID with greetings from SWID Bangladesh. I am hoping for kind cooperation from all the concerned member countries in order to successfully complete the conference. I look forward to active participation from all members/representatives/resource persons working across various countries for the welfare and rehabilitation of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (PWID). This is a platform for all of us to come together and exchange our ideas, thoughts and future plan for implementation and demonstrate our commitment through our collaboration.
SWID Bangladesh is the pioneer and nationally recognized organization in Bangladesh in the field of intellectual disability and has supported the movement to protect equal rights and opportunities, rehabilitation with employment, social security and uphold dignity of the people whom we work with. We have become a large association in the Asia region, promoting 135 special schools for the intellectually disabled & autistic children.

Message from AFID Secretariat
First of all, I would like to extend my heartiest congratulations for the “23rd Conference of Asian Federation on Intellectual Disabilities.”
The conference has been organized to pursue the happiness of people with disabilities in Asia by exchanging information and strengthening networks base of the Asian people with intellectual disabilities. I understand that all of you are the best experts and have been contributing your endeavor to research in many fields, commonly working for the education and welfare of the disabled.
As I conclude my remarks, I would like to thank you to AFID President Mamun, as well as everyone who worked so hard to prepare this gathering. More than anything else, I take great pleasure in welcoming all the participants who traveled a long distance to attend this gathering.
I wish continued development of the Asian Federation on Intellectual Disabilities and good health and happiness for all the people with disabilities and their families.

I’d like to personally welcome each of you to the 23rd Conference of Asian Federation on Intellectual Disabilities (ACID) of Asian Federation on Intellectual Disabilities (AFID). It’s an exciting time for all the organizations serving Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, as we continue to grow and adapt, remaining always motivated, responsive and open to innovative ideas. We believe that now we are confronting a time of many changes and we’re meeting these changes during a time of larger nation-wide and global change through ACID. With the 23rd AFID Conference we aspire to continue to meet and bring inspired people together in forums like these, to meet the demand of our intellectually disabled persons.
We’re transforming the way we operate to continuously improve the ability of our special children so that we are able to bring them in mainstream society and help them improve their skills. The people of Bangladesh as well as SWID Bangladesh have continued to meet the challenges of this field and to excel despite setbacks. We are very proud to arrange 23rd AFID Conference and are excited about where we are heading through this Conference.
I’d like to thank each of you for attending AFID Conference and bringing your expertise to our gathering. You, as organization leaders, have the vision, the knowledge, the wherewithal and the experience to help us pave our way into the future for the Intellectually Disabled Person. The people with Intellectual Disabilities are truly our asset today and tomorrow, and we could not accomplish what we did without your support and leadership. Throughout this Conference, I ask you to stay engaged, keep us proactive and help us shape the future of AFID as well as SWID Bangladesh for the Persons with Intellectual Disabilities.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is my pleasure to welcome you and all the delegates to Dhaka Bangladesh, for the 23rd Conference of Asian Federation on Intellectual Disabilities (ACID) that will take place in November, 2017. This is the largest event for the Persons with Intellectual Disabilities to establish the equal rights of opportunities. It will give participants a platform to exchange ideas, discover novel opportunities, reacquaint with colleagues, meet new friends and broaden their knowledge. This Conference will also give us an opportunity to discuss the future directions of the field of disabilities in terms of diagnosis, interventions, research and beyond.
My heartiest congratulations goes out to the AFID President Mr. Jowaherul Islam Mamun to bring honour to our country, as the newly elected president of AFID for the period of 2015-2017. I also thank all of the AFID members who are working for a long time for the Persons with Disabilities to reach their standard life.
We are thankful to the many international speakers who will shed light on the research and clinical issues that shape our field today. We are looking forward to arranging a program that has a balance of innovative research topics as well as sessions with a clinical focus for treating this disorder.
I believe that by holding this Conference not only the Asia region but also the rest of the world will get the message for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities to carry their sustainable life in the family, society, country as well as the world. We hope that presentations from different countries shared during this Conference will enrich our knowledge and help us provide even better treatment and care for all ages of people with Intellectual Disabilities in order to help them live a more enriched and less stigmatized life.
Once again, we are pleased that SWID Bangladesh is going to arrange 23rd AFID Conference. This will be a proud moment for us as well as the people of Bangladesh.
All the members of the local Organizing Committee from SWID Bangladesh as well as other local institutions wish you a superb Conference experience and a memorable stay in Dhaka city.
